Potential green products in Austria

Author: Liuhuaying Yang

In economic complexity theory, each country possesses various capabilities that enable it to produce a range of products, influenced by factors such as physical conditions, skilled labor, legal systems, and technological landscape. These capabilities shape a "product space," which can forecast a country's future product portfolio, including market entry and growth in specific goods, based on technological and societal prerequisites. Researchers Tobias Reisch, Johannes Stangl, Jan Hurt and Stefan Thurner of the Complexity Science Hub have identified potential green products in Austria and their proximities. Utilizing their findings, the map illustrates the both produced and potential green products within each federal state, while the network visualization depicts the product space, highlighting the potential green products and their proximity to existing goods based on underlying technologies or prerequisites. Each node symbolizes a product, with color indicating its type, and the size reflects its export value in the network and relative advantage on the map. The distance between nodes underscores their similarity.
