Women's Individual Gold Medals

From the first 1900 Paris Olympics Games to feature female athletes to the Olympic charter making the presence of women mandatory in every sport since 2007, women are making their way in sport. Probably not as quickly as some of them run, and still facing abuse and sexist comments, but still, here they are ! We wanted to pay our respect to these incredible modern heroes by featuring in a place all the Individual Women gold medals. Equal participation does not mean equity. Women's sports have taken some important steps in the last half-century, but there are many challenges, discrimination, inequalities and abuses. So while we are cheering on the Olympians during these Games, we have to take those into account as well, because otherwise, we're not telling the whole story. TOKYO — For the first time since the founding of the modern Olympics 125 years ago, the Games have nearly reached gender parity. The five sports debuting at Tokyo - karate, speed climbing, skateboarding, surfing and 3x3 basketball - will all have women's events.
